Senior Spotlight Dominic Di Palermo

November 11, 2025

Dominic Di Palermo, a senior from outside of Chicago has had a chance to take a semester off to return to Illinois and intern for the Chicago Tribune. This past year he has had the pleasure of covering the Kentucky Derby, Chicago Bears, documenting Jane Goodall a few weeks before her death. Chicago became the center of attention as the federal government began detaining undocumented immigrants and the citizens of the city began pushing back. Here are a few of his pictures from the past year.

A detainee is unloaded from a vehicle by a Border Patrol agent before being brought into the Immigration and Customs Enforcement processing facility in Broadview, Illinois, on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025. Federal agents have detained undocumented immigrants from around the city of Chicago and surrounding area, which has been met with heavy resistance from both Illinois politicians and residents.

Evan Zimmerman, left, and his son Harrison Zimmerman, 7, prepare to get dinner in their Ford station wagon, similar to the one Michael Myers drives in the movie Halloween. The father-son duo were cosplaying at a horror movie trivia night at D-Town Energy in Decatur, Indiana. The Zimmermans are popular on Tik Tok for dressing as Michael Myers for videos. They are known well in Decatur and often make appearances for meet-and-greets at local venues.

Cage the Elephant lead singer Matt Shultz performs at the Bud Light stage at Lollapalooza in Chicago’s Butler Field on Thursday, July 31, 2025. The four-day festival brought thousands of people to the Loop, Chicago’s business district. The band, from Bowling Green, Kentucky, has been performing worldwide since 2006.
